It’s Been Awhile…

I realized this morning that I’m just not writing anymore. I trust that will change again soon, but right now I’m sufficiently occupied, and then some. 🙂

With the gardening /canning season in full swing, and the farm to keep up with, plus mowing grass, doing laundry, looking after my little ones, and more, there’s just no time for writing.

I’m currently taking a break from reorganizing our bedroom closet, because it’s August, and besides that, #noairconditioning 😳 this mama is warm!

As I sat here in my comfy recliner, in front of a fan, with two little people perched on the arms, I thought I should at least take the time to post some pictures and a little life update.

Not much is new, but I can share some highlights from the summer that’s almost gone. Yes, really. I don’t know where it went either. But it’s mostly been a good one.

The weekend of our 7th anniversary, July 28, was the weekend that we went camping with my family at Lake Moomaw. We had a wonderful time, the weather was lovely, the food was phenomenal, and being with family is always precious.

The only thing I don’t love about camping, is putting everything away when we get home. I’m not a minimalist, but I think I need to develop some minimalist tendencies , at least when I’m packing for trips.

I always over-pack, and I always have to bring things home and put them away, that we never even used. You’d think I’d know by now! But I don’t learn. So every time, I do it again. Maybe next year I’ll get it right. 🙂

We also took a road trip this summer. To Indiana, for the wedding of my friend Jeff, and his wife Louisa. We were amazed with how well the children traveled, and also thankful that God granted us a safe trip there and back.

We stayed with an Amish couple there, and we (especially Cory) enjoyed the exposure to their culture. They were so hospitable and accommodating, and made us all feel right at home. The children got their first buggy ride, and for some reason I didn’t take a picture of that. 🤔

In other news, pretty sure this doesn’t count as a highlight, but a friend of ours had the misfortune of totaling our car, which “upgraded” me into “minivan-mom” status sooner than I thought I would be there, and it doesn’t look quite like I’d pictured. 😅

My dear, bargain sleuthing husband found a deal on an older (but very low mileage) van on Craigslist. I’m not going to post a picture, mostly because I think it is fearfully ugly , and most of you will end up seeing it around anyway.

It is missing a hubcap, and the windows need tinting, so it kinda has the feel of driving around in a fishbowl. But it gets us around, the children love it, and we think it will do for now. I named it Humble Pie, and I don’t believe I need to explain the reason for that.

Another recent highlight for me, was spending an evening with some dear friends, eating Mexican food, at my favorite restaurant, and just getting in some good old girl time. We should do this more often, y’all.

Well, that about catches you up with what’s been going on over here. We are looking forward to meeting our third little one this fall, but still a while to wait for that, so don’t hold your breath. 🙂 If I don’t post before then, I shall certainly update you when that happens. You can pray that either it’s a girl, or that some boy name turns up that Mr Dexter and I agree on. 🙂

Suggestions are welcome! I won’t beg, but, you know, please feel free to send lots of good solid boy names my way. 😅

And just because I love comparing pictures from years ago, and seeing how much has changed. Here are the Knicely grandchildren, in 2016, versus 2019. 😁

Happy Summer to you all!

  1. Thank-you for sharing! You could name your son, Solomon, if you have one. 😉 It’s quite “solid” and matches with Oliver a little. Looked like a fun time camping. Glad you all got to go.
