Poetry Challenge

This is a little different from my usual posts. I have been thinking about doing this for awhile, and now I think I’ve overcome my fear of no one responding, and I’m here to stick my neck out. Because if no one participates, big deal. I will just call it a fail, and roll on. ๐Ÿ™‚ (But…I’m really hoping you will decide to help me out!)

You see, for years I have been thinking about the verse in Proverbs 3, about wisdom… there are many, but specifically, I LOVE verse 17.

“Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.”

It sounds like poetry! And I have tried and tried to come up with a poem using this verse as the last line in each stanza, or just using it period. Somehow it just isn’t coming together for me.

So here is my challenge: I want to see poems that incorporate this verse in some way. I’d prefer that the verse be included verbatim, just as it is in the KJV (because how can you improve on that?) If you enjoy poetry and love writing your own, please accommodate me and see what you can come up with. ๐Ÿ™‚

Or… if you know of such a poem that’s already been written, by all means, send me that, including the authors name if available.

Send it to the email address you will find on my contact page, and add “Poetry Challenge” in the subject line. This is not a contest, and there is no prize. My plan is to put them all together in a future post -or posts, if necessary. (I won’t hold my breath.) ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you would prefer to remain anonymous, state that in your email also.

All poems need to be in my inbox by September 1. I am going to continue trying to come up with one of my own, but I can’t wait to see yours! Actually make that “I’m over here with my fingers crossed, hoping at least one of you will help me out.” Haha ๐Ÿ™‚

If you have questions, you could put them in the comments… Happy writing! (Nudge, nudge) ๐Ÿ™‚

Blessings, Jeanette

  1. You know, I really like your idea!! Sadly I’m no poem writer so I can’t help you out on that… :/ But I hope there is someone who is, because I’d sure like to read what they come up with. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I think that is the last part of the fifth stanza of the song, “Oh, happy is the man who hears instruction’s warning voice… #503 in the Christian Hymnal

    1. Someone else mentioned that one to me also ! You know, it’s funny. I grew up singing that song from time to time in the old order church, but for some reason I don’t remember that last line being there. But it sure is! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. That was what came to my mind too. Except I couldnโ€™t have said for sure if it was in any songbook except the little ones without music that we used in church. โ˜บ๏ธ

  4. You’re making me think about that line a lot, and it’s always in the same tune we used at church. But I’m also thinking about what it means, and I’m thinking about taking you up on the challenge. We’ll see. I’m not very disciplined, and I think Winnie the Pooh said, “Poetry isn’t a think you get. It’s a thing that gets you.” But if I see it coming, I won’t run.

    1. You’re right! I think that’s why I haven’t been able to come up with anything! I’m not very good at forcing rhyme and rhythm… It kinda needs to hit me in the head.
